How it all started

Minty on holiday

Footsteps was set up in 2003 by Pip Hoyer Millar whose daughter Minty has cerebral palsy. Pip was told Minty would never develop beyond the capabilities of a four year old, and would not be able to walk independently.

A search for an intensive physiotherapy programme led them both to Poland and a device called the Spider.

Seeing that the treatment dramatically improved Minty’s condition, Pip and two of Minty’s physiotherapists brought the Spider to the UK and set up The Footsteps Centre, providing intensive physiotherapy for children and young adults with neurological disorders.

Minty continues to have regular therapy and is able to walk, talk and leads an active social life.

It is down to her determination and hard work along with her physiotherapists that she has grown into the inspirational teenager she is today.

The Footsteps Centre has now tripled in size and continues to help hundreds of children with varying conditions and needs.
